Adeenacoversm

Part I of a serial poem that textually proceeds in the tradition of such poets as Oppen, Nichol, Duncan, Spicer committed to the shape of a life lived with the lyric irony of textuality; taking on the search for definition punctuated with strong incursions of eros, pleasure, terror and social networking. The book features full color graphics by Blaine Speigel.

Adeena Karasick is a poet, media-artist and the award-winning author of seven books of poetry and poetic theory, Amuse Bouche: Tasty Treats for the Mouth (Talonbooks 2009), The House That Hijack Built (Talonbooks, 2004). The Arugula Fugues (Zasterle Press, 2001), Dyssemia Sleaze (Talonbooks, Spring 2000), Genrecide (Talonbooks, 1996), Mêmewars (Talonbooks, 1994), and The Empress Has No Closure (Talonbooks, 1992). Marked with an urban, Jewish, feminist aesthetic that continually challenges normative modes of meaning production, and engaged with the art of combination and turbulence of thought, her work is a testament to the creative and regenerative power of language and its infinite possibilities for pushing meaning to the limits of its semantic boundaries. Karasick has lectured and performed worldwide and regularly publishes articles, reviews and dialogues on contemporary poetry, poetics and cultural/semiotic theory. She is Professor of Global Literature at St. John's University in New York.

"Ottawa poet Pearl Pirie's been shed bore (Chaudiere Books, 2010), her first trade poetry collection, follows years of a small voice gaining strength, and in volume, through so much subtle activity and quiet disconnect that by the time she was noticed, she was already everywhere, and already a confident voice."

52 flowers (or, a perth edge) exists as an essay-in-poems, a sequence responding to the "Ontario Gothic" poetry of Perth, Ontario poet Phil Hall, focusing on the Griffin-nominated An Oak Hunch (Brick, 2005). If the best response to a poem, as Margaret Atwood once said, is another poem, then this, in fact, is the finest response.

Lary Bremner writes under the name he was born with, lary timewell. He was the founder of Tsunami Editions, Vancouver, B.C., & responsible for most of the library of taped readings at the Kootenay School of Writing before 1992, which were largely aired on Gerry Gilbert's legendary weekly poetry hour on CO-OP Radio, CFRO, Vancouver. His chapbook Jump/Cut appeared in the initial 1986 Tsunami series. Other work has appeared in the Capilano Review, West Coast Line, Writing, Verse, Motel, and B.C. Monthly. In 1992, after the decline of salmon fishing in British Columbia, he moved to Japan to start an eikaiwa / English language school. Recent work includes a chapbook addressed to the late Billy 'Zonko' Little, entitled the ubiquitous gaze of che, a collection of new work, posthumous spectacle nodes, and a first printing of the1986 Polaroid poems, Pas d'affiches.

Sat, 16 Apr 2011 20:03:00 -0700 Two new titles from lary timewell http://obviousepiphanies.posterous.com/49840592 http://obviousepiphanies.posterous.com/49840592

Poems ranging from 1986 to 2010 make up the collection posthumous spectacle nodes. The book was compiled after recovering from a cardiac arrest, and consists of "accidents & happy failures," an attempt to honour the poetry of a number of Canadian (primarily Vancouver) and American poet-friends. The long poem the ubiquitous gaze of che is dedicated to the late Billy 'Zonko' Little.
